2023 Hero World Challenge: Tiger Woods, Projections & Odds

Prominent golfers like Rickie Fowler, Viktor Hovland, Tiger Woods, and Jordan Spieth have all won the coveted Hero World Challenge in the past. With 82-time PGA Tour winner Woods leading the field, the 2023 edition of the event is highly anticipated. Following his withdrawal from the Masters in April, Woods is now back in the competitive arena.

A Look Back

Woods last won the title twice, in 2006–07. Viktor Hovland is the reigning champion going into the 2023 Hero World Challenge. Hovland is now the 4-1 favorite in the odds, closely followed by Collin Morikawa (8-1) and Scottie Scheffler (9-2). Notably, Woods, the event’s five-time winner, has interesting longshot odds of 80-1. It’s a good idea to review the projected leaderboard from SportsLine’s highly renowned computer model before making your final picks.

Created by DFS guru Mike McClure, the model has shown remarkable accuracy. It has also won over $9,000 on its top wagers since the return of the PGA Tour in June 2020. Interestingly, the model has been spot on this year. It successfully predicted Jon Rahm’s wins at the 2023 Masters, the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. The model has regularly produced successful forecasts. The triumphs of Nick Taylor at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open and Scottie Scheffler in 2022 were projected by McClure’s creation.

This Year’s Projections

With ten majors predicted correctly before the weekends, this algorithm has shown that it can consistently provide investors with significant profits. The 2023 Hero World Challenge field has been determined. After 10,000 runs of the SportsLine simulation, some surprising findings have been revealed. The model’s projection for two-time major champion and strong challenger Collin Morikawa is one obvious departure from the expected results. The model predicts Morikawa will have difficulties this week and fall short of being in the top five. This is the opposite of what was anticipated. Although Morikawa just won the Zozo Championship, he has never placed better than T-5 at the Hero World Challenge in the past. Concerns over his overall performance are raised by his struggles on the green. Morikawa currently ranks 97th in putts per round, 102nd in one-putt percentage, and 114th in strokes gained: putting.

Additionally, the model has provided insight into how Tiger Woods is expected to perform at the 2023 Hero World Challenge. Despite his stellar five-win record at the event, 15-time major champion Woods will be looking to overcome rustiness as he hasn’t participated in a professional round since the Masters in April. For fans of the game, the model’s unexpected forecasts about Woods’ play have offered fascinating new perspectives.
