Torrey Pines Insider: Summer 2026
Welcome to the Summer 2026 edition of the Torrey Pines Insider — our quarterly round-up of what’s changing at the course, which weeks to avoid, and a few things worth watching before your next round.
Torrey Pines Keeps Its PGA TOUR Event — Now Called The Sentry
Sentry Insurance has been named title sponsor of the PGA TOUR event at Torrey Pines, ending months of uncertainty after Farmers Insurance stepped away from a tournament it backed for 17 years. The renamed event tees off January 25–30, 2027 on the South Course, still run by the Century Club of San Diego. Read the full announcement on PGATour.com.
Two more pieces worth your time:
- Torrey Pines elevated to the PGA TOUR Championship Series in 2028
- Why Torrey Pines’ TOUR future looks brighter than it did in January
Tournaments Coming to Torrey
Championship weeks mean limited public access. Here’s what’s on the calendar.
- The Sentry — January 25–30, 2027. Both courses, closed to public play. Formerly the Farmers Insurance Open.
- Junior World Championships — July 12–15, 2027. Both courses, 1,000+ junior golfers.
- San Diego City Amateur — dates to be announced. South Course.
Upcoming Maintenance & Closures
Aeration and overseeding close each course for a few days, and greens stay bumpy for two to three weeks afterward. Worth knowing before you lock in a date.
- North Course, September 15 – October 5, 2026 — open, fairway aeration
- North Course, October 6–8, 2026 — closed, overseeding
- South Course, October 27 – November 9, 2026 — closed, overseeding
- Practice greens, December 1 – January 18 — daily 2PM close for Sentry prep
Cart path only: North October 9 – February 1 · South November 10 – February 1. South fairway aeration runs October 5–26 and the course stays open.

The Quarterly Fail
Even the pros lose it sometimes — worth it for the commentary alone. Sky Sports’ funniest bloopers ever.
Golf Joke
My golf game is a lot like my taxes. I keep trying to lower the number, and the penalties keep going up.
Golf Tip: Chip With the Handle Ahead
Ball back of centre, weight forward, and brush the grass instead of scooping. The handle leads and the clubhead follows.
