Torrey Pines Photo Spots: The Best Places for Instagram-Worthy Golf Pictures
Torrey Pines is one of the most photographed public golf courses in the world, and for good reason. Cliffs, ocean, canyon, and manicured turf all in the same frame. If you’re bringing a camera or just your phone, here are the five spots worth stopping for.
South Course, Hole 3 Tee Box
This is the postcard shot. The tee box sits right on the edge of the coastal bluffs, with the Pacific stretching out behind you and the cliffs dropping away beneath. Wide, dramatic, and almost impossible to photograph badly.
South Course, Hole 4 Green
You’re standing where U.S. Open history was made. The green sits in a natural amphitheater setting with ocean views in the background. It photographs beautifully and carries real weight if you know what happened there.
North Course, Hole 7 Tee
A quieter, more intimate coastal shot than the South Course offers. The tee overlooks a stretch of shoreline that feels remote and peaceful, which makes for a nice contrast to the more dramatic South Course scenery.
South Course, Hole 18 Fairway
The stadium hole. This is where the gallery gathers during tournaments, and the scale of the finishing hole comes through clearly in photos. Walk up the fairway and shoot back toward the canyon behind you for the best angle.
North Course, Hole 8 Green
An elevated perch with a sweeping coastal view that most visitors miss entirely. Because it sits on the North Course, there’s far less foot traffic, so you’ll likely have the spot to yourself.
Timing
Go during late afternoon. The golden hour light at Torrey is genuinely something, warm and low with the fog sometimes rolling in off the water. It turns an ordinary phone snapshot into something worth keeping.
